Writing Wrongs

January 15, 2007

Week 1: One week down, seven (!) to go.

Word count for the week: 6,591

Drink of choice: Celestial Seasons Peppermint tea. Granted, it’s been a few years since I’ve consumed mass quantities of this tea. Is it me? Or has the taste improved immensely? Excellent peppermint leaf crop?

Music that made its way into the manuscript: Beth by Kiss. Rock & Roll All Night also, amazingly, by Kiss. Perfect Situation by Weezer. Once In A Lifetime by The Talking Heads. In particular, these lines:

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Landon makes mix tapes for the girls’ swim practice and this is the first song on the very first mix. I don’t use the actual lyrics because, in general, getting permission is a huge pain (assuming publication here, if it’s just sitting on my hard drive, it hardly matters).

Darlings I may have to kill at a later date:

Stay tuned for the next exciting installment of how Charity writes. Will her word count increase? Will she continue to litter her manuscript with 80s nostalgia? Will she curb her use of the em-dash?
